Cover New Detached ADU: The Austin Owner’s Guide
If your Cover new detached ADU has a part that’s failed or is wearing out, we stock Cover-compatible components and install them across Austin, typically for $400 – $1,400 depending on the part and what’s involved. Most swaps happen same-day once we confirm the right match for your unit. You’ll usually notice the problem as a door that drags, a panel that won’t sit flush, a window seal that’s gone cloudy, or hardware that’s lost its finish. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Cover, but we work with these units regularly and we know what actually fails in Central Texas weather.
Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover produces modular detached ADUs in a few series, and the part compatibility is not universal across all of them. The original Cover units, often classified as Cover S series or early-gen builds, use a lighter aluminum frame profile than the newer Cover models that moved to a heavier steel-reinforced chassis. Door hardware, window seals, and corner trim pieces do not swap cleanly between the two generations. Before we order or install anything, we check the serial number plate inside the unit, usually near the electrical panel or on the door jamb, and we measure the actual opening. That gets the right part the first time.
For most Cover parts, OEM is the right call. The factory tolerances are tight, and aftermarket equivalents sometimes need shimming or filing, which defeats the purpose. Where we do use quality aftermarket parts is for things like weatherstripping, cabinet hardware, and standard door rollers, where the aftermarket version is often better suited to Austin’s heat and humidity than what shipped originally. Dvele and Abodu owners sometimes ask us the same question, and the answer is usually the same: match the part to the unit, not to the price tag.
Signs Your Cover New Detached ADU Is Failing
- Dragging or binding entry door: The rollers on Cover’s sliding doors sit in a track that collects fine dust and pollen through Austin’s dry stretches, and once grit gets into the bearings, the door starts to fight you. Left alone, the track itself gets scored and the repair doubles.
- Cloudy or fogged window seals: Texas temperature swings from 40° nights to 100° days put constant stress on the double-pane seals. Once moisture is inside the glass, the insulating value is gone and the pane needs replacement, not repair.
- Loose or rattling corner trim: Cover’s exterior trim panels use clips that can get brittle after several Central Texas summers. A loose panel is a quick fix early, but it can let water behind the siding if you wait through a rainy spring.
- Stiff or sagging interior doors: The interior doors in a Cover unit are light and hollow, but the hinges are mounted into metal studs. When the hinge screws back off, the door sags and the latch misses the strike plate.
- Cabinet hardware pulling free: The factory hardware on some Cover builds is mounted through thin laminate with short screws. Daily use in a busy ADU – kids, laundry, kitchen traffic – eventually strips the holes.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Austin, installed replacement parts for a Cover detached ADU generally run:
- Door rollers and track cleaning: $180 – $380
- Window seal or full sash replacement: $300 – $900 per unit, depending on glazing and size
- Exterior trim panel clips and re-seating: $150 – $450
- Interior door hinge and strike plate repair: $120 – $300 per door
- Cabinet hardware re-mounting: $200 – $500 for a full kitchen, depending on how many boxes need work
Every range includes the part and the labor. We write the price before we touch anything, and it does not change unless we find something structural behind the wall that no one could have seen from the outside. If that happens, we stop, show you what we found, and give you an updated number before we proceed. Every part we install is covered under our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails within a year, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
Some of this you can check yourself. If a door is dragging, you can look at the track and see whether it’s bent or just packed with dirt. If trim is rattling, you can often see whether the clip is broken or just popped loose. Window seal failure is obvious from the fog between the panes. But the actual replacement work is where people get into trouble. Door rollers on a Cover unit are under spring tension in the track, and releasing the wrong screw can send the panel off its rail. Interior hinge repair looks simple until you strip the metal stud and the door falls. And windows in a modular unit are set into factory openings: a bad reseal leaks, and in Austin’s flash-flood spring rains, that leak finds the wall cavity fast. FAQs

Most Cover components should last 10 to 15 years in Austin, but rubber seals and door rollers typically wear faster here because of the heat, dust, and humidity cycles. Window seals in particular tend to fail in the 7 to 10 year range in this climate. If your unit is older than that and you’re seeing clouding, that’s the expected lifespan playing out, not a factory defect.
Some things can be repaired: track cleaning, hinge re-tightening into new anchors, re-clipping trim. But once a seal has failed or a roller bearing has gone gritty, repair is a temporary measure at best. We’ll tell you honestly which side of that line your part falls on, and we won’t sell a replacement where a repair is genuinely better. Call (254) 615-3842 and describe what you’re seeing; we can often tell you which it is over the phone.
Most individual parts replacements on a Cover unit take one to three hours once the right component is in hand. If we need to order an OEM part from Cover’s supply chain, that can add one to two weeks depending on stock. We keep common items like rollers, weatherstripping, and trim clips on the truck, so a same-visit fix is likely for the most typical failures.
We stock the high-failure items: door rollers, track guides, weatherstripping, trim clips, and standard interior door hardware. Window sashes and model-specific framing components are ordered to match your serial number, which is why we always confirm the unit’s details before we quote. The price we give you includes the part once it’s ordered; there’s no surprise freight fee added later.
